What is the flatland

The flatland is a realm of reality that is a 0 dimension of pure data/concept. The entities there, for whatever reason, crave access to our 3rd dimension. The only tool at their disposal data manipulation and intercepting communication. Their previous attempts to manipulate the physical world directly have often been unhelpfully fatal. The stylization of their data corruption can has recognized in both digital and analogue form by various people over human history, and this sightings have been collected in the archive. This corruption has been misinterpreted by the humans who have witnessed and documented it based on their own cultural and personal biases, to be divine, supernatural, or quantum. The archive, as a concentration of data related to the entities, has given them unparalleled access to our dimension to attempt further breach.

In a way we are data, too, just folded in such a way we stand up and walk around and change. When the data that makes up our physical forms is corrupted, we change in ways we weren’t meant to. The entities are trying to learn who to fold themselves to become physical as well, but their intellect is so alien from our own they can’t wrap their heads around how it would work, and they cannot empathize with us except to mimic. They think that by taking human personality data it will somehow give them their own bodies. They are just as clueless as we are.

Worldbuilding questions

Potential reasons for their invasion of our dimension:

• They have over exploited their local resources and require alternatives
• They are innocent, simply driven by their own scientific curiosity, and cannot recognize us as consciousnesses worthy of protection
• They exist in their own version of a capitalist hellscape, and their own livelihood is dependant on the success of the project at any cost

How much does the alien world have in common with our own?

• Almost exactly the same with some variation that leaks through artifacts.
• So alien it doesn’t even have matter in common - the entities only ability to relate to us is my mimicry.

What are the entities actual powers to effect the mundane or communicate with its occupants? How has it changed over time and why?
