The interface game I'm building is simulating a database. Most interface simulation games are databases, but they don't need to be. I would consider Stop Talking And Nobody Explodes to be an interface simulation. Two players collaborate to defuse a bomb. One is given a database of information to explore and investigate, but no agency to use it, and the other the interface to change the state of the game world but no information about how it works. This game simulates two diegetic interfaces.
The bomb itself is quite obviously not a bomb, as it is presented on a screen. But I once saw a homage to the game at a game jam, at a Dames Making Games Jam sometime in the 2010s, in which the developers fabricated a physical wearable, a vest with the bomb interface on the back, simulating a suicide vests. The database player wears the vest, preventing them physically from defusing the bomb as they cannot reach it, depending on their companion to follow their instructions. I think about this project all the time but have no idea how to find documentation of it. The DMG archive has also disintegrated.
